The Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) has denounced the European Union’s move to impose five-year anti-dumping duties on hot-rolled steel imports from Japan.
JISF stated that Japanese mills follow fair trade rules and that the duties—set between 6.9% and 30%—are unwarranted and harmful. The federation warned that the decision risks straining EU–Japan trade relations and disrupting supply chains that supply automotive, engineering, and construction sectors in Europe.
The EU had earlier ruled that imports from Egypt, Japan, and Vietnam were being dumped at unfairly low prices, injuring local producers. While mills such as Tokyo Steel face lower duties, major players like Nippon Steel have been hit with the highest tariff rate.
JISF urged the EU to reconsider the decision, emphasizing the importance of open, stable trade in steel products to meet Europe’s industrial demand.
