In a recent address at the inauguration of the REVA University Centre of Excellence for Geopolitics and International Studies in Bengaluru, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Housing & Urban Affairs, highlighted India's resilience in the face of the pandemic. He expressed optimism about India's economic growth, noting that it is already the fifth-largest economy and poised to become the third-largest. With a growth rate of 7.3% over the first three quarters of the current fiscal year, India is on track to achieve its development goals by 2047.

The Minister attributed India's increasing global stature to its domestic socioeconomic successes and welfare reforms. He highlighted a paradigm shift in governance, from policy paralysis before 2014 to transformative policies that directly benefit citizens. Over the past decade, more than 25 crore people have been lifted out of multidimensional poverty, and out-of-pocket health expenditures have decreased by 25% due to schemes like Ayushman Bharat Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, and AMRUT.

Shri Puri also mentioned achievements such as providing tap water connections to 10.57 crore rural households, constructing over 11 crore household toilets, and building 2.51 crore rural houses and over 80 lakh urban houses under PM Awas Yojana. He highlighted milestones under schemes like PM MUDRA Yojana, PM SVANidhi Yojana, and PM Ujjwala scheme. India has transformed from a net importer to the world's second-largest mobile manufacturer, with increased domestic value addition.

India's demographic dividend, with a young and growing workforce, contrasts with the ageing workforce in developed countries. Shri Puri emphasised the intellectual capital and entrepreneurial genius of India's demographic advantage. He also spoke about India's soft power as the largest and pluralistic democracy, advocating for global good through the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

Inaugurating the Centre of Excellence for Geopolitics and International Studies, Shri Puri highlighted its significance in advancing India's position in the global landscape. He hoped the centre would ignite intellectual curiosity and foster thought-provoking discussions among scholars, professionals, decision-makers, and emerging leaders.

Shri Hardeep Singh Puri's address underscores India's progress, resilience, and global aspirations, emphasising the importance of understanding and advancing India's role in the 21st-century world.
