In April, India's domestic coal production reached 78.69 million tonnes (MT), surged 7.41%. The country produced 73.26 MT of coal in the same month of the prior fiscal year. The coal ministry released a statement stating, "India's coal production for April 2024 reached 78.69 MT (provisional)."
In comparison to the same period last year, when it was 57.57 MT, Coal India Ltd. (CIL) recorded a surge of 7.31% to reach a production of 61.78 MT (provisional) during the last month.
In addition, the amount of coal produced by captives and other sources this month was 11.43 MT (provisional), gaining 12.99% from 10.12 MT the year before.
The country shipped 85.10 MT (provisional) of coal in April as compared to 80.23 MT in the same month the previous fiscal year. More than 80% of the country's coal production comes from Coal India.
