India has imposed anti-dumping duties for five years on certain cold-rolled steel imports from China, a move aimed at shielding domestic producers from unfairly low-priced shipments. The government order covers Cold Rolled Non-Oriented Electrical Steel (CRNO) a silicon-electrical steel product used in motors, generators and smaller transformers imported in sheets or coils across widths and thicknesses.
Duty levels vary by exporter, with the levy ranging from about $223.8/tonne to $414.9/tonne, according to the order cited in reporting.
The decision follows an investigation and recommendation process led by India’s trade remedy authorities, which concluded that dumped imports had caused material injury to the domestic industry. Notably, Cold Rolled Full Hard Silicon Electrical Steel (CRFH) used as an input in making CRNO has been excluded from the anti-dumping duty.
Overall, the measure strengthens India’s broader push to counter import-led price pressure in the steel value chain while attempting to preserve fair competition for local manufacturers.
