✅ Industry investments in sustainable technology to boost global competitiveness.
The Indian government is actively taking steps to boost green steel production as part of its strategy to reduce the industry's carbon footprint, a senior minister stated. The initiative aligns with India's commitment to sustainable development and net-zero targets.
According to the minister, the government is promoting low-carbon steelmaking technologies, including hydrogen-based steel production and increased use of renewable energy. The steel sector, which is among the largest contributors to industrial emissions, is a key focus area for decarbonization.
Major steelmakers are already investing in green hydrogen, electric arc furnaces, and carbon capture technologies. However, high costs, infrastructure limitations, and technology adoption challenges remain key hurdles. The government is working on policy incentives to support this transition.
With increasing demand for sustainable steel in international markets, India aims to position itself as a leader in green steel production. The move is expected to enhance export competitiveness while contributing to climate goals.
