According to data released by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 13 countries accounting for approximately 91.5% of total world DRI production in 2023 totalled 9.56 million metric tonnes (MMT) in March this year, up 9.5% month on month and down 4.8% year on year.
Meanwhile, global DRI output was 28.09 MMT in January-March of this year, up 7.4% from the same period in 2023.
Worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in March this year. India’s DRI output amounted to 4.23 MMT in the given month. In February, Iran, Russia, and Saudi Arabia followed India, with outputs of 1.93 MMT, 700,000 million tonnes, and 602,000 million tonnes, respectively.
