Finnish companies are being encouraged to use their procurement strategies to accelerate carbon emission reductions in the steel industry, highlighting the growing importance of sustainable supply chains in industrial manufacturing. Experts believe that large corporations can significantly influence the transition toward low-emission steel production by prioritizing the purchase of greener steel products.
The initiative focuses on reducing Scope 3 emissions, which include indirect emissions generated across supply chains. Analysts noted that steel-consuming sectors such as construction, automotive, engineering, and infrastructure have a major role in supporting cleaner steel production through responsible sourcing decisions.Industry reports indicate that demand for green steel is rising globally as governments and corporations strengthen climate targets and decarbonization commitments. Technologies including hydrogen-based steelmaking, electric arc furnaces, and renewable energy integration are expected to play a key role in lowering emissions from steel production.
