Coal India production rises 7% in April

CIL, a state-owned company, said its April production grew by 7.3% to 61.8 MT. Coal India Ltd (CIL) reported in a BSE filing that it produced 57.6 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the same month last fiscal year.

CIL accounts for more than 80% of domestic coal output. In addition, the company's coal offtake increased by 3.2% to 64.3 MT last month from 62.3 MT in the same period last year. The quantity of dry fuel the pitheads provide is known as coal offtake.

Out of the 61.8 MT of coal produced by CIL last month, the maximum production of 16 MT came from Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), followed by 14.1 MT from South Eastern Coalfields (SECL) and 11.8 MT from Northern Coalfields Ltd.

CIL's production increased 10% to 773.6 MT in FY24 but fell short of its production target of 780 MT for the fiscal. Coal India Ltd's production was 703.2 MT in 2022-23.
