China’s stainless steel exports recorded a sharp decline during the first four months of 2026, reflecting weakening global demand and growing pressure on international steel trade. According to customs data, China’s stainless steel exports fell 28.47% year-on-year to 1.197 million metric tons between January and April.
Industry analysts linked the slowdown to weaker overseas demand, increasing trade restrictions, and growing competition in global stainless steel markets. Net stainless steel exports from China also dropped nearly 39.7% year-on-year during the same period, highlighting pressure on export-oriented steel producers.
Several countries have tightened trade measures on Chinese steel products, including anti-dumping duties and stricter import regulations, which have affected export volumes. At the same time, slower construction activity and softer industrial demand in key global markets have reduced stainless steel consumption. Despite the export decline, analysts noted that China continues to maintain strong production capacity and remains a dominant player in global steel manufacturing. Industry experts believe the market will closely monitor future export trends, trade policy changes, and infrastructure demand recovery for signs of stabilization in the stainless steel sector.
