China and Serbia are moving ahead in green steel development as HBIS Group strengthens its Smederevo steel plant project with cleaner technology and research-led upgrades. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met HBIS chairman Liu Jian in Beijing, where both sides highlighted the plant’s role in boosting Serbia-China industrial cooperation. HBIS said it will continue focusing on green energy projects, technology improvements and low-carbon steelmaking.
A China-Serbia joint laboratory, run by HBIS and the University of Belgrade, has also reported early progress in green steel manufacturing. Key developments include trial samples of high-definition outer steel panels, a pilot hydrogen-based smelting line for vanadium and titanium extraction, and advances in ultra-high-strength automotive steel. The partnership may support Serbia’s steel sector as global demand rises for sustainable and low-emission steel products.
