A series of explosions tore through a steel factory in Faridabad’s Mujesar industrial area on Monday after sparks from an electrical fault reportedly reached oil and chemical drums stored in the open. Officials said preliminary findings point to a short circuit in a CNC machine during steel-cutting operations around 4 pm, with flames spreading rapidly to drums containing Mobil oil and other flammable chemicals.

Only a handful of workers were inside when the first blast hit, but many injuries were reported among bystanders and workers from nearby units who rushed in to help—only to be caught by further blasts as more drums ignited. More than a dozen fire tenders battled the blaze, using high-pressure water jets to cool drums and prevent additional explosions as thick smoke blanketed the area.

At least 35 people were injured, with several treated for chemical burns and breathing difficulties from fumes. Victims were taken to BK Civil Hospital and private hospitals, and some were shifted to Delhi facilities. Police and fire officials have begun investigations and are preparing a case to examine possible safety lapses.
