Changling Special Steel has marked a key commissioning milestone by performing the first heat at its new 100-ton Danieli Zerobucket electric arc furnace in China. The furnace is designed for 100 percent scrap charging, supporting flexible and cost-efficient steel production. One of its major operating targets is a 30-minute tap-to-tap time, enabled by a continuous scrap feeding system that removes the need for traditional scrap buckets. The setup is expected to improve melting stability, reduce mechanical stress and enhance overall plant productivity. The development also highlights China’s growing adoption of advanced electric arc furnace technology as steelmakers focus on efficiency, modernisation and scrap-based steelmaking.
