Bharat Steel-2026, a flagship summit of the Union ministry of steel, will be held in New Delhi on April 16–17, 2026, with a strong focus on showcasing Odisha’s steel potential to global investors. The event will promote world-class steel projects in mineral-rich states, particularly Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Odisha chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi has positioned the state as the “backbone” of India’s steel sector, noting that it contributes over 55% of the country’s iron ore output. The state aims to raise its steel production to around 130 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by 2030, which could account for nearly half of India’s total steel output.

India, the fastest-growing major economy, is banking on steel as a key enabler for infrastructure, manufacturing and exports. The Centre plans to lift national steel capacity to 300 MTPA by 2030 and 500 MTPA by 2047, while pushing affordable raw material supply, green steel initiatives and support for smaller players’ decarbonisation efforts.

Bharat Steel-2026 will bring together producers, policymakers, infrastructure developers, investors and financial institutions to discuss technology disruptions, raw material security, logistics and global market trends, reinforcing Odisha’s and India’s ambitions as major steel hubs.
