AM/NS India Launches Advanced Steel Line for Auto Sector at Hazira
AM/NS India has commissioned its first Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL) at the Hazira steel plant in Gujarat, marking a major milestone in domestic production of advanced auto-grade steel. This line enables the company to manufacture Advanced High-Strength Steel (AHSS) up to 1,180 MPa, meeting growing demand from India’s automotive and white goods sectors.
The new line is a key part of AM/NS India’s ambitious ₹60,000 crore expansion plan, which will scale up Hazira’s annual capacity from 9 million tonnes to 15 million tonnes by the end of 2026. The long-term goal is to expand further to 24 million tonnes, making Hazira one of the largest integrated steel plants in India.
This project supports India’s Make in India and import substitution policies by enabling the production of high-performance steel previously sourced from abroad. AM/NS India CEO Dilip Oommen said the line represents a technological leap, delivering world-class quality for safety-critical automotive applications.
In addition to boosting industrial capabilities, the facility incorporates green technologies such as waste heat recovery, regenerative systems, and hydrogen-based processes, aligning with India’s push for sustainable steelmaking.
AM/NS India CEO Dilip Oommen emphasized that this milestone marks India's first indigenous high-strength galvanizing capability, bringing global-quality automotive steel production to Indian soil and backing the nation’s self-reliance vision By enhancing local availability of specialized steel, AM/NS India aims to strengthen India’s manufacturing backbone while reducing import dependence, bolstering both economic and environmental goals.
