The World Trade Organization (WTO) has ruled that the European Union’s anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Indonesian stainless steel violate international trade rules.
Indonesia filed the case after the EU imposed steep tariffs in 2021, citing subsidy and dumping concerns. The ruling is seen as a major trade triumph for Indonesia, ensuring fairer access for its steel exports to European markets.
Trade Minister Budi Santoso said the verdict strengthens Indonesia’s position in global trade and urged the EU to immediately remove the duties.
Although the dispute strained relations, the EU and Indonesia have recently finalized negotiations on a free trade agreement, signaling continued commitment to economic cooperation.
The decision is expected to boost Indonesia’s stainless steel exports and reshape the competitive landscape in global steel markets.
