Tata Steel Rolls Out First Galvanised Coils from New Kalinganagar

Tata Steel has commenced production at its newly commissioned Continuous Galvanising Line (CGL‑1) at the Cold Rolling Mill complex in Kalinganagar, Odisha. The facility has rolled out its first batch of high-quality galvanised steel coils, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion strategy.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology—including a third-generation air-knife system, magnetic stabilisers, and advanced oxidation chambers—CGL‑1 is designed to produce coated Advanced High Strength Steels (AHSS) that offer superior surface finish, formability, and corrosion resistance. These products are intended for high-performance applications in the automotive and appliance sectors.

This development is part of Tata Steel’s ₹27,000 crore Phase II expansion at Kalinganagar, which has increased the plant’s overall capacity from 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 8 MTPA. The expansion also includes a new Pellet Plant, Coke Plant, and other infrastructure enhancements aimed at strengthening the company’s downstream capabilities.

With this launch, Tata Steel reinforces its position as a leading supplier of value-added steel products, catering to both domestic and international markets.
