Global stainless steel production rose by 5% in April–June 2025 compared to the previous quarter, reaching 16.36 million tons, according to the World Stainless Association. On a yearly basis, output increased by 3.1%.
Europe saw a decline, with stainless steel production falling 5.1% year-on-year (y/y) and 4.1% quarter-on-quarter (q/q) to 1.54 million tons. The U.S., on the other hand, recorded growth of 7.8% y/y and 1.1% q/q, producing 559,000 tons.
In Asia (excluding China and South Korea), production rose 4.1% y/y but slipped 2.2% q/q to 3.49 million tons. China remained the dominant producer, with output of 10.54 million tons, up 3.9% y/y and a strong 9.6% q/q rise.
Other producing countries such as Ukraine, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia, South Korea, and Russia together produced 225,000 tons, marking a 2.9% y/y and 1% q/q increase.
For context, global stainless steel output in 2024 grew 7% year-on-year to 62.62 million tons. China accounted for the largest share at 39.44 million tons, followed by steady increases from the U.S., Europe, and the rest of Asia.
The latest data highlights China’s continued dominance and recovery momentum in stainless steel production, while Europe struggles with declines.
