Indian Railways loaded 128.29 million tonnes (MT) of goods in April 2024, which is 1.46% greater than the 126.45 MT freight loading for April 2023. Starting in October 2020, the national transporter recorded the largest goods loading for 55 consecutive months.
In April 2023, goods revenue earnings were ₹13,893.27 crore, whereas in the current month, they were ₹14,075.14 crore. Railways loaded 57.64 MT of coal, 14.88 MT of iron ore, 5.24 MT of pig iron and finished steel, 6.79 MT of cement, 4.75 MT of clinker, 3.85 MT of foodgrains, 4.01 MT of fertilisers, 4.16 MT of mineral oil, 6.57 MT of containers, and 9.54 MT of balance of goods in April 2024.
For the full fiscal ending March 2024, Indian Railways loaded 1591 MT of freight, up from 1512 MT in the preceding fiscal. Records of railway electrification, new lines, and track replacement were also made during the fiscal 2023-24. Within goods loading, the Railways ferried 787.61 MT of Coal, 180.95 MT of Iron ore, 153.80 MT of Cement, and 114.36 MT as Balance Other Goods for the full fiscal 2023-24.
The official said this achievement follows Indian Railways' ‘Hungry For Cargo’ initiative to improve service delivery at competitive prices.
