Gadchiroli pitched as Maharashtra’s future green steel hub India set to drive next global steel demand wave Italy crude steel output rises 3.1% in May Green steel progress remains slow worldwide
Italy’s steel production strengthened in April 2026, supported by a sharp rise in long product output. According to Federacciai data, crude steel production reached 1.9 million metric tons, up 7.2% year-on-year, marking the strongest April output in four years. During January-April 2026, total steel production stood at 7.6 million metric tons, showing 2.9% annual growth.
Long steel products remained the main growth driver, with April output rising 12.3% to 1.2 million metric tons. In the first four months of 2026, long product production increased 10.5% year-on-year to 4.6 million metric tons. However, flat steel continued to face pressure, with April output falling 9.3% to 743,000 metric tons.
The data highlights a mixed recovery in Italy’s steel sector, where strong demand for long products is supporting overall output despite weakness in flat steel production.
