Mumbai, India – March 2025: In a significant move for India’s steel industry, John Cockerill has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Bombay to drive steel decarbonisation, green hydrogen development, and defense innovation. The collaboration aims to accelerate low-carbon steel production and hydrogen-based technologies, reducing the sector’s environmental impact.
Under the agreement, John Cockerill will work closely with IIT Bombay’s research teams to develop sustainable steelmaking processes, leveraging hydrogen as a cleaner alternative to traditional methods. This aligns with India’s net-zero goals and the government’s push for green industrial solutions.
Additionally, the MoU includes a focus on defense product development, strengthening India’s self-reliance in strategic manufacturing. Experts believe this partnership will enhance technological innovation, provide sustainable alternatives for steelmakers, and position India as a leader in green steel production.
