The European Commission (EC) has imposed five-year anti-dumping duties on imports of hot-rolled flat steel from Egypt, Japan, and Vietnam.
Egypt: 11.7%
Japan: 6.9% to 30% (Tokyo Steel at the lowest, Nippon Steel at the highest)
Vietnam: 12.1% (with Hoa Phat Group exempted)
The decision followed a 2024 complaint by EUROFER (European Steel Association), which earlier led to provisional duties in April 2025. The EC concluded that dumping by these countries harmed EU producers employing nearly 38,000 workers across 15 member states.
Meanwhile, the investigation into India’s exports of similar products was closed with no duties imposed, as dumping was not established.
This ruling reinforces the EU’s commitment to protecting its steel industry from unfair pricing and global oversupply pressures through trade defense measures.
