Sarralle will supply key technology for UMB Steel’s new meltshop at Oțelu Roșu, Romania, supporting the restart of the site after 12 years and advancing a more energy-efficient steelmaking setup. The project is designed for annual output of about 700,000 tons, focused on rebars, compact coils and wire rod for infrastructure and construction use.
At the center of the plant will be an electric arc furnace using KR-MELT® scrap preheating technology, aimed at improving energy savings, productivity and environmental performance. Sarralle will also install ladle furnaces, a vacuum degasser and a high-capacity fume extraction system to boost steel quality control, process flexibility and emissions compliance. The move adds to UMB Steel’s broader push to build a sustainable long-products complex at Oțelu Roșu.
