ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India’s upcoming Andhra Pradesh project is shaping up to be one of the most significant developments in India’s steel sector. The company is set to begin work on a massive integrated steel plant near Visakhapatnam, with an initial investment of about Rs 70,000 crore and a planned 8.2 million tonnes per annum capacity. Supported by land allocation, faster clearances and infrastructure backing from the Andhra Pradesh government, the project is expected to strengthen steel supply in eastern and southern India while reducing dependence on imports. Beyond steelmaking, the venture will add upstream and downstream facilities, encourage ancillary industries, and deepen the broader manufacturing value chain. With operations targeted for late 2028 or early 2029, the plant could create a strong long-term impact on regional jobs, logistics, industrial growth and India’s overall steel expansion story.
