ArcelorMittal, one of the world’s largest steelmakers, has inaugurated a new low-carbon steel roof production line at its Basse-Indre facility in France, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable steel manufacturing in Europe.

The new production line will manufacture branded low-carbon steel roofing sheets, which are produced using recycled and renewable energy-based steelmaking processes. These roofing solutions are designed to help reduce carbon emissions in construction and industrial applications.

ArcelorMittal stated that the investment supports its goal of achieving carbon neutrality in Europe by 2050 and complements its broader decarbonisation initiatives, including hydrogen-based steelmaking and increased use of scrap recycling.

The company highlighted that this line will cater to the European construction and green infrastructure sectors, offering durable, energy-efficient, and recyclable steel products.

According to ArcelorMittal officials, the Basse-Indre plant has been modernised with cutting-edge automation and energy optimisation systems, setting a benchmark for green steel innovation in Europe.

Industry experts view this development as a key step toward sustainable construction materials and a strong signal of Europe’s accelerating transition to low-emission steel production.
