ArcelorMittal–Nippon Steel to Break Ground on ₹1.35 Lakh Crore Plant in Anakapalli

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) is set to lay the foundation stone for a massive integrated steel plant in Andhra Pradesh’s Anakapalli district this October. The ₹1.35 lakh crore project marks one of India’s largest foreign direct investments in the steel sector.

Spread across 2,200 acres in Rajayyapeta and Nakkapalli mandals, the plant will be developed in two phases, targeting a total capacity of 17.8 million tonnes per annum. Land surveys and groundwork are already underway in villages including Nellipudi and Kagita.

The state government has allocated 2,080 acres for the project, with an additional 450 acres earmarked for a township to house plant workers and support staff. Infrastructure plans include a four-lane road, dedicated railway connectivity, and pipelines to ensure smooth operations.

The first phase of production is expected to commence by 2029, with full-scale operations by 2033. Once operational, the plant is projected to create over 55,000 direct and indirect jobs, giving a significant boost to the region’s economy.

This will be AM/NS India’s first major greenfield steel plant outside Gujarat, aligning with the company’s strategy to expand its footprint and meet rising domestic demand.
