Adani Defence & Aerospace has inaugurated two expansive facilities for manufacturing various calibre ammunition and missiles within the Uttar Pradesh defence corridor in Kanpur. These facilities, covering an extensive area of 500 acres, are poised to meet the demands of the armed forces and police, significantly reducing reliance on defence public sector undertakings for supplies.

The Kanpur facility, set to be one of the largest integrated ammunition manufacturing complexes, will produce high-quality small, medium, and large calibre ammunition for the armed forces, paramilitary forces, and police, according to a statement by Adani.

Remarkably, the facility has commenced production, rolling out 150 million rounds of small calibre ammunition, estimated to fulfil 25% of India's annual requirement. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, speaking virtually at the inauguration, emphasised the importance of a robust defence sector for India's strategic autonomy and global influence.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lauded Adani's significant investment in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor, highlighting its role in fostering a vibrant defence ecosystem. Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, present at the event, underscored the Army's efforts in indigenizing ammunition, with over 85% now sourced domestically.

General Pande outlined plans for a time-bound indigenization programme for all currently imported ammunition, emphasising the export potential and India's aim to become a global hub for ammunition technology and innovation.

Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, emphasised the broader impact of these facilities, projecting over 4,000 jobs created and significant economic benefits extending to MSMEs and the local ecosystem.
