India’s steel ministry has urged the finance ministry to remove anti-dumping duties on low-ash metallurgical coke imports, as steelmakers face rising input costs and tight domestic supply. The duties were imposed for six months to check imports from countries including China, Indonesia, Poland, Japan and Switzerland.
Met coke is a key raw material for blast furnace steel production, and limited availability has added pressure on mills already dealing with cost challenges. According to the report, state-run RINL has seen input costs rise by around 20%, while small and medium steel producers are also struggling to secure competitive supplies. The move, if approved, could ease raw material pressure and support India’s steel production competitiveness.
