Zhongshou Special Steel has successfully started operations at its new Arvedi ESP (Endless Strip Production) plant developed by Primetals Technologies in Luanzhou, Hebei Province, China. The facility is being recognized as the world’s most powerful and productive Arvedi ESP steel plant, marking a major milestone in green steel manufacturing.
The new production line features an advanced configuration with a 130 mm-thick caster, four roughing stands, and five finishing mill stands, making it the most advanced ESP installation in China to date. The plant is capable of producing high-quality endless hot-rolled coils ranging from 0.7 mm to 12.7 mm thickness for commodity and automotive-grade steel applications.
Industry experts noted that the Arvedi ESP process significantly reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions compared to conventional blast furnace and hot-strip mill operations. Zhongshou selected the technology as part of its transition toward electric arc furnace (EAF)-based green steel production aimed at meeting global low-carbon manufacturing standards. Company officials stated that the project strengthens Zhongshou’s long-term strategy to become a leader in low-emission steel manufacturing while improving competitiveness in markets affected by carbon border adjustment regulations. Analysts believe the startup highlights China’s accelerating investment in sustainable steel technologies and next-generation manufacturing systems.
