Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), achieved its highest-ever combined daily output from its two Steel Melting Shops on December 24. Steel Melting Shop-1 (SMS-1) and Steel Melting Shop-2 (SMS-2) together completed 143 heats, producing 20,934 tonnes of liquid steel—a new production milestone for the plant.
The combined performance surpassed the previous best of 142 heats recorded on January 10, 2021. The report attributes the record to tighter coordination between the two shops, improved process planning, and stable equipment performance through the day.
On the same date, SMS-2 also posted its best single-day output since commissioning, delivering 73 heats and 11,169 tonnes of liquid steel—beating its earlier record of 72 heats set on August 12, 2025. Officials said disciplined execution, uninterrupted material flow, adherence to operating schedules and close process monitoring helped achieve the benchmark.
