India–US Trade Tensions Rise Over Steel and Auto Tariffs NMDC Limited reports a 38% drop in Q4 FY24 consolidated net profit RINL to Raise $23 Million Through Land Sales Amid Crisis
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a significant domestic metals-sector order from SAIL (and other customers), awarded to L&T’s Minerals & Metals (M&M) business, reinforcing its role in India’s steel plant build-out.
A key component is SAIL’s IISCO Steel Plant (Burnpur, West Bengal) expansion, where crude steel capacity is planned to rise from 2.5 MTPA to 6.5 MTPA. For this programme, L&T has been awarded the complete engineering, procurement and installation (EPI) package for several core units, including a Coke Oven Battery, By-Product Plant, Basic Oxygen Furnace, and a specialised material-handling equipment package.
In parallel, SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant (Jharkhand) is undertaking an upstream expansion, and L&T has won a key package to set up Sinter Plant #2.
L&T also noted additional wins for stacker reclaimers and wagon tipplers from other clients, signalling wider demand for bulk material-handling systems across India’s metals value chain. Senior L&T executives highlighted the long-standing L&T–SAIL partnership and emphasised execution capability, safety and sustainability focus.
