In accordance with the solar plan for the Delhi government, 645 buildings belonging to different departments and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will have 50 megawatt (MW) grid-connected rooftop systems installed. The government's recently authorised solar policy is in line with the desire to develop solar plants.
All government and MCD buildings with a built-up area greater than 500 square meters are mandated by policy to have rooftop solar plants installed. The proposal calls for the installation of rooftop solar plants on about 645 government and MCD buildings in Delhi, including electricity substations, bus depots, healthcare facilities, and educational facilities.
The Delhi solar policy, passed by the Cabinet on January 29, is being hailed as one of the best and most progressive policies in India. This policy is the key to expand the use of solar power in Delhi's green energy contribution and total power capacity. The initiative will help make the government buildings more energy-efficient, resulting in these becoming sustainable and completing their energy needs through self generation of power.
