Odisha is on track to become India’s steel powerhouse, with projections indicating the state will contribute 50% of the nation’s total steelmaking capacity by 2030. The state government, in collaboration with major steel producers like JSW Steel, Tata Steel, and Jindal Steel & Power, has been actively facilitating large-scale investments in integrated steel plants, infrastructure, and logistics.
As per the Ministry of Steel, India aims to reach a production capacity of 300 million tonnes (MT) by 2030, with Odisha expected to account for over 150 MT. The state’s abundant mineral reserves, improved infrastructure, and proactive industrial policies are driving this rapid expansion.
Odisha Industries Minister Prafulla Mallik stated that over ₹1.5 lakh crore worth of steel projects are currently underway or in the pipeline in the state, positioning it as the backbone of India’s steel economy.
