NMDC Steel Limited (NSL) has achieved a major milestone by becoming India’s first public sector integrated steel plant, marking a significant step in the nation’s drive toward industrial self-reliance and value-added steel production.
Located in Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh, the plant has a production capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and integrates all major processes from ironmaking to finished steel under one roof. The facility aims to supply high-quality steel for sectors such as infrastructure, defense, and manufacturing, reducing dependence on imports.
The development positions NMDC Steel as a key player in India’s vision for 300 MTPA national steel capacity by 2030, aligning with the government’s “Make in India” and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
Company officials stated that the plant incorporates advanced automation, energy efficiency systems, and sustainable technologies to ensure low emissions and operational excellence.
With this achievement, NMDC Steel is set to enhance employment, regional development, and value creation for the domestic steel ecosystem, contributing to India’s goal of becoming a global steel powerhouse.
