NMDC hikes iron ore prices for May deliveries.

Demand revival, tight supply trigger the increase.

Steelmakers to face higher input costs ahead.

State-owned miner NMDC Limited has announced an increase in the prices of all grades of iron ore for May 2025 deliveries. The decision comes amid firm demand from domestic steelmakers and limited market supply.

According to an official statement, NMDC has raised lump ore prices by ₹300 per tonne to ₹6,100 per tonne, while fines prices have been increased by ₹200 per tonne to ₹5,160 per tonne, effective from May 1, 2025.

Industry players attribute the price hike to steady offtake from steel mills, tightening inventories, and expectations of a revival in construction and infrastructure activity with the onset of the new financial year.

Analysts suggest the upward revision in iron ore prices may push steel production costs higher, impacting margins for re-rollers and secondary steel manufacturers in the short term. However, major integrated steel producers are expected to absorb the hike due to healthy finished steel prices prevailing in the market.

This is NMDC’s second consecutive price increase this year, reflecting the strengthening raw material market after months of price volatility.
