An agreement has been signed between NLC India Limited and the government of Rajasthan to form a joint venture that would invest more than ₹7,000 crore and build a 1000 MW solar power plant in addition to a 125 MW lignite-based power plant. The agreement, signifying a major push towards renewable energy, was exchanged in Jaipur in the presence of high-ranking officials from both the corporate and government sectors.
The initiative includes the establishment of a 125 MW lignite pit-head thermal power plant in the Bikaner district and a substantial 1000 MW solar power plant. Additionally, a Letter of Intent (LoI) for an 810 MW solar power project has already been issued, marking significant strides towards NLC India's goal to enhance its power generation capacity to 17 GW by 2030, with more than 6 GW derived from renewable sources.
The MoU exchange, featuring dignitaries such as Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLC India Ltd, Devender Singhvi, RVUNL, was held in the esteemed presence of Union Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, and other notable figures. Further enhancing the project's scope, additional MoUs were signed with Coal India Ltd, NTPC, PGCIL and REC to expand generation capacity, improve the transmission system, and secure financing.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi lauded the proactive vision of the Prime Minister and the steadfast commitment of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma in expediting these transformative projects. Amrit Lal Meena, Coal Secretary, Government of India, expressed confidence in the prowess of PSUs under the coal ministry, asserting that with the infrastructure and land support provided by the Rajasthan government, the signed projects will significantly bolster the nation's energy security.
