Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, recently approved ₹718.26 cr for the widening and strengthening of a 26.96 km stretch of National Highway-59 in Odisha's Kandhamal and Ganjam districts. This project is part of the Annual Plan 2023-24 and focuses on improving the Daringbadi Ghat section.
The Daringbadi Ghat segment is currently facing challenges due to its narrow carriageway and suboptimal geometrics. This has led to long-route vehicles from western Odisha bypassing National Highway-59. To address this, the project aims to enhance highway standards, improve safety, and ensure all-weather connectivity along this stretch.
The Daringbadi Ghat area is a popular tourist destination, especially during winter. Improving this section of the highway will not only benefit the residents but also enhance the overall travel experience for tourists visiting the region.
By widening and strengthening this 26.96 km stretch of National Highway-59, the project will help alleviate traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and enhance connectivity between Kandhamal and Ganjam districts. It will also contribute to the overall development of the region by improving transportation infrastructure.
Shri Nitin Gadkari's sanctioning of ₹718.26 cr for this project underscores the government's commitment to improving road infrastructure in Odisha. Once completed, this project will not only benefit the local economy but also improve the quality of life for residents and tourists alike.
