Big push for Delhi-Meerut RRTS progress.
New Delhi, May 16, 2025 — The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has achieved a significant milestone by installing a 200-tonne steel span over the Barapullah flyover in Delhi. This installation is a crucial component of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, facilitating the connection between Sarai Kale Khan station and the upcoming Jangpura stabling yard.
Key Highlights:
Complex Engineering Feat: The steel span comprises four girders, each measuring 40 meters in length and weighing 50 tonnes. Due to the challenging terrain, where the corridor intersects both a drain and the flyover, traditional pillar construction was unfeasible.
Innovative Installation Method: To minimize traffic disruption, the girders were installed using a two-stage night-time lifting method involving three high-capacity cranes. The pre-manufactured steel segments were transported to the site at night and assembled on-site.
Advancement in RRTS Development: This installation is part of the broader 82-kilometer Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, with the 4.5-kilometer Delhi section from Sarai Kale Khan to New Ashok Nagar already undergoing trial runs since April 13.
