Mysuru City Corporation has introduced an unusual but smart solution to stop public urination near the KSRTC sub-urban bus stand. Mirror-like polished stainless steel sheets have been installed along the footpath on Bengaluru-Nilgiri Road, turning a long-troubled spot into a cleaner and more visible public space.
The 85-metre reflective steel wall acts like a mirror, discouraging people from urinating in the open by making their actions immediately visible. The area had become a major “Yellow Spot” due to foul smell and repeated misuse, despite warnings and notice boards. The problem especially affected women, children, pedestrians, and commuters using the busy bus stand area.
Officials chose stainless steel because it is durable, cost-effective, and suitable for outdoor use. The frames are fixed along the roadside and connected with lighting to improve visibility at night. MCC hopes the move will improve public hygiene, support Swachh Mysuru efforts, and strengthen the city’s image as a clean and tourist-friendly destination. Early reports suggest the reflective steel wall is already helping discourage public urination.
