The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has initiated plans to acquire 9,100 acres of land in Chamorshi tehsil, Gadchiroli district, for the proposed world’s largest integrated steel plant by the JSW Group.
JSW chairman Sajjan Jindal earlier announced the project, which aims to establish a 25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) steel facility with an estimated investment of ₹1 lakh crore. The new location was chosen over the previously identified Wadsa site, as it offers more suitable conditions for the mega project.
The land parcel includes private, government, and forest areas. MIDC officials expect smoother acquisition, with compensation packages likely to gain acceptance among local landowners. Once cleared, the acquisition process will be carried out by MIDC on behalf of JSW.
If implemented, the project will transform Gadchiroli once known as a Maoist-affected region into a key hub for India’s iron and steel industry, generating large-scale employment and boosting regional development.
