ISSDA pushes safeguards, procurement reform Vijayanagar shutdown weighs on JSW output Europe’s energy-intensive industries demand cheaper electricity
JSW Steel reported consolidated crude steel production of 2.37 million tonnes in February 2026, down 2% year on year from 2.41 million tonnes a year earlier. The dip was linked to ongoing capacity enhancement work at the Vijayanagar Steel Plant, where the No. 3 blast furnace has remained offline since September 2025.
The company’s India shipment volumes also eased to 2.31 million tonnes in February, compared with 2.33 million tonnes in the same month last year. Excluding the impacted Vijayanagar facility under JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Limited, production showed an around 8% year-on-year increase, signalling underlying operational strength despite temporary maintenance-led pressure.
