Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a landmark project that will reshape the industrial landscape of Keonjhar district. Global steel giants JSW and POSCO are set to jointly establish a mega steel plant in Patna, Keonjhar a move poised to convert the mineral-rich town into a modern industrial hub akin to Rourkela.
The CM described the project as a pivotal step in fulfilling the region’s long-standing aspiration for industrial development. With Keonjhar holding one of the richest iron ore deposits in India, the new plant aims to process raw materials locally, generating employment, infrastructure, and economic growth.
This mega venture aligns with the state government’s commitment to decentralizing industrial growth and maximizing resource value within Odisha. The announcement has sparked enthusiasm across the district, with community groups and tribal leaders welcoming the initiative.
Majhi also credited the Union Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting the establishment of large-scale steel facilities in resource-abundant regions. The upcoming plant will not only boost Keonjhar’s economy but also play a significant role in Odisha’s broader development trajectory.
Further project details, including investment size and timeline, are expected following feasibility studies.
