Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL) decreased carbon emissions by 2.4 lakh tonnes (LT) between 2022-23 and 2023-24, according to a company statement released on Wednesday. JSL is implementing several strategies to cut its emissions' carbon content to zero by 2050.
The company intends to generate more than 1.9 billion units of clean electricity each year, with the goal of reducing carbon emissions by more than 13.52 LT by the target year.
"In the last two fiscals (FY22 and FY23), the company has successfully reduced 2.4 LT of Co2 emissions, taking it a step closer towards carbon neutrality and responsible manufacturing," the statement said.
The company stated that it has begun using renewable energy in its operations and producing green hydrogen for steel-making. In addition, JSL has upgraded its technology and implemented digitalization at its Odisha and Haryana facilities to improve energy efficiency and the use of electric vehicles.
The company said, "These initiatives have contributed to the significant reduction of approximately 2.4 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions over the past two fiscal years." It has also joined the SBTi initiative, under which the global climate action body will develop measures to help the company meet its net zero emission targets.
The UK-based Science-undefined Targets initiative (SBTi) develops standards and tools and provides companies with a framework for setting ambitious emission reduction targets aligned with climate science.
