The Government of India has intensified its efforts to strengthen the iron and steel sector, with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal chairing an inter-ministerial meeting focused on boosting production and exports.
The meeting brought together key ministers, including Coal & Mines Minister Kishan Reddy, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, and Minister of State for Commerce & Industry Jitin Prasada, alongside senior officials from the Odisha government.
The discussions centered on increasing iron ore and steel production, enhancing exports, and achieving higher capacity utilization in existing plants. Strategies to improve cost efficiencies and streamline operations under the government’s Ease of Doing Business framework were also highlighted.
Minister Goyal stressed the importance of strong government–industry collaboration to build a competitive, resilient, and sustainable ecosystem for India’s iron and steel industry. He underlined that such coordinated efforts are vital to expand India’s global footprint in steel exports and ensure domestic industrial growth.
With India aiming to position itself as a leading player in the global metals sector, the government is expected to announce further measures supporting investment, regulatory reforms, and export competitiveness in the coming months.
