✔️ India’s steel exports to the U.S. are minimal, limiting direct tariff impact.
✔️ Diversified export markets in Asia and Europe offer stability.
✔️ Potential global price pressures remain a concern.

New Delhi: India’s top steel industry official has downplayed the potential impact of the 25% tariffs imposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump on steel exports. Speaking at a press briefing, the chairman of the Indian Steel Association (ISA) stated that India’s steel exports to the U.S. account for a small portion of the total trade, making the direct effect of the tariffs relatively limited.

“The U.S. market is not a significant contributor to India’s overall steel export volume,” the chairman said. “Our main export destinations remain in Asia and Europe, where demand remains stable.”

Industry experts echoed similar sentiments, noting that India’s competitive pricing and diversified export markets would help cushion the blow. However, there are concerns about indirect effects, as global steel prices could face downward pressure due to trade redirection from other countries affected by the tariffs.

While the immediate impact may be limited, analysts warn that any prolonged trade tension could affect market confidence and pricing strategies.
