Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal, M. Nagaraju underlined the crucial role of coal gasification in boosting India's energy security and advancing towards a self-reliant nation. Speaking at a roadshow organised by the Ministry of Coal in Mumbai to promote coal/lignite gasification projects, Nagaraju emphasised the government's commitment to diversifying the use of coal, achieving import substitution, and spurring socio-economic development in coal-bearing regions.
The event, aimed at fostering innovation and sustainability in the coal sector, saw participation from key industry stakeholders, including investors and experts. It served as a platform to discuss the government's scheme for coal/lignite gasification projects and its potential to contribute to India's cleaner and energy-efficient future.
Nagaraju outlined the government's support for coal gasification, including financial assistance, coal linkages, and land provision for setting up projects. He urged the attendees to invest in technology towards a greener future. The roadshow also featured insights from Mukesh Agrawal, Director (Finance), Coal India Limited, and Jai Praksh Dwivedi, Chairman, Western Coalfields Limited, on the importance of coal gasification and CIL's initiatives in the field.
Presentations by industry experts covered financing aspects, opportunities in coal gasification, and the role of R&D in high ash coal gasification. In his concluding remarks, Nagaraju invited all industry stakeholders to participate in the scheme and collaborate to realize India’s energy aspirations through coal/gasification projects, underscoring the government's intent to leverage sustainable practices in the coal sector.
