At the much-anticipated India Steel 2025 event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid out an ambitious roadmap for the future of India’s steel sector, emphasizing both capacity expansion and sustainability. Addressing industry leaders, policymakers, and international stakeholders, PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to becoming a global steel powerhouse while actively reducing its carbon footprint.
The Prime Minister set a target of achieving 300 million tonnes of annual steel production capacity by 2030, aligning with the National Steel Policy. He emphasized the importance of modernizing existing plants, adopting green technologies, and integrating digital infrastructure for enhanced efficiency.
PM Modi also highlighted India’s focus on green steel production, urging manufacturers to invest in eco-friendly processes such as scrap-based electric arc furnaces, hydrogen-based reduction methods, and carbon capture technologies. The government pledged policy support and financial incentives to accelerate the transition toward sustainable practices.
The event witnessed participation from major industry players like JSW Steel, Tata Steel, SAIL, and global investors. Discussions revolved around raw material security, coking coal strategies, international collaborations, and innovation in steelmaking technologies.
