The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of cold-rolled flat stainless steel from China, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
The action follows a petition by the Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA), which represents major players like Jindal Stainless and SAIL. The complaint alleges that imports are being sold at unfairly low prices, harming domestic producers.
Preliminary evidence shows that these imports have led to price depression, lower market share, and reduced capacity utilization in India’s stainless steel sector. With a national production capacity of 7.5 million tonnes, current utilization stands at only 60%, underlining the impact of cheap imports.
The DGTR will review evidence and decide on duties or safeguard measures to protect Indian industry.
