China's output of Pig iron and crude steel totalled 284.99 million metric tonnes (MMT) and 343.67 MMT, respectively, down 4.3% and 3.0% year on year during the Jan-Apr period of this year. Meanwhile, the total national ferrous scrap consumption amounted to 79.31 MMT, increasing by 1.7% year on year.
Consolidated scrap consumption reached 230.8 kg/mt, with an increase of 10.6 kg/mt, or 4.8%, compared to the same period last year. In particular, the scrap consumption via converters amounted to 184.5 kg/mt, increasing by 5.8% year on year, while scrap consumption via electric furnaces totalled 657.9 kg/mt, up 2.7% year on year.
