Epsilon Carbon Pvt. Ltd. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Odisha to develop an Integrated Carbon Complex (ICC) in Jharsuguda, Odisha. The investment is for ₹10,000 crores over 10 years.
The ICC project will have a production capacity of 8,75,000 MT/year for various carbon products. The complex's three primary parts are the Advanced Materials Capacity (75,000 MT/annum), Carbon Black Capacity (300,000 MT/annum), and Speciality Carbon Capacity (500,000 MT/annum).
The project is anticipated to create 2000 direct and indirect employment possibilities, advancing the socioeconomic advancement of the area. Epsilon Carbon strongly emphasises working with neighbourhood groups to assist infrastructure, healthcare, education, and skill development.
Jharsuguda, chosen as the location for the mega project, boasts an industrial ecosystem, skilled labour availability, robust infrastructure, and industry-friendly policies. The region's proximity to major steel industries ensures a consistent supply of raw materials. Additionally, the project strategically benefits from Jharsuguda's status as India's aluminium hub, utilizing coal tar pitch extensively. Well-connected ports like Paradip enhance the project's logistical advantages for smooth export operations.
Vikram Handa, Managing Director of Epsilon Carbon, highlighted the company's confidence in Jharsuguda's potential. He cited the state's industrial-friendly policies and existing steel and aluminium industries aligning with Epsilon Carbon's sustainable business strategy. The venture aims to contribute to the region's industrial growth and prosperity while marking a significant milestone in Epsilon Carbon's commitment to sustainable development.
