In a sharp escalation of the US-China trade conflict, China has announced an increase in tariffs on selected US goods to a total of 84%, responding to the recent tariff hike by the United States on Chinese imports.
The decision comes after the US imposed tariffs as high as 104% on certain Chinese products, prompting Beijing to retaliate with its own duties on a range of American exports, including automobiles, agricultural products, and high-end tech components.
Chinese officials stated that the move is aimed at defending national interests and protecting key domestic industries. The hike could significantly disrupt global supply chains and increase input costs for manufacturers and consumers alike.
